Generate a colour palette from one colour

Start from your brand colour. Colours makes its harmonies, its tints, shades and tones, and a 50 to 950 ramp, and exports the one you choose as code or a swatch file.

Generate a palette

How to do it

  1. Type your colour in the panel (HEX, RGB, HSL, OKLCH or CMYK), or pick it from a picture.
  2. Under Made from this colour, choose a Harmony beside the colour wheel (complementary, analogous, triadic, split complementary, tetradic, square, monochrome, shades or custom) and the RGB, RYB or OKLCH wheel.
  3. Drag the handles on the wheel: the others follow the harmony; in Custom each one moves on its own. The arrow keys move a focused handle.
  4. Click Use as the palette under the row you like, or pick single colours and click Add this colour.
  5. Name the palette and choose the format under Export: CSS variables, Tailwind config, JSON, Adobe .ase or GIMP .gpl.
  6. Click Download palette, Copy code, or Save to Files….

Your files stay on this device: Colours runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.

Questions

What is the RYB wheel?

The painter's red-yellow-blue wheel, as Adobe Color offers it: there the complement of red is green and of blue is orange. The RGB wheel is the screen's, and OKLCH keeps the lightness even as the hue turns.

How is the ramp made?

The hue is kept and the lightness steps from 97% to 22% in OKLCH, with less chroma near white and black. Your colour sits at its nearest step.

Can I open the palette in Photoshop or Illustrator?

Yes. Export it as Adobe Swatch Exchange (.ase) and load it in the Swatches panel. GIMP and Inkscape read the .gpl file.

Are my palettes kept?

The palette on the page is kept in this browser. Save to Files keeps a file you can open again here.
