OCR · free, in your browser
Copy the text from a picture
Drop a photo of a receipt, a screenshot or a scanned page and OCR reads the lines of text on your device. Check the result, edit it, and copy or save it.
How to do it
- Drop the image on the page, or choose files. Several images are read as separate pages.
- The first time, choose Get more and accept the licence to download the OCR model to this browser.
- Choose Read text. Boxes show each line that was found on the picture.
- Correct the text in the box beside the picture where needed.
- Choose Copy all text, or save as Text (.txt), Markdown (.md) or Word (.docx).
Your files stay on this device: OCR runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.
Questions
Which languages can it read?
85 languages, with one model for each script: Swedish, German, French, Polish and about 50 more in Latin letters with their accents; Russian and other Cyrillic languages; Arabic, Persian and Urdu; Hindi; Chinese, Japanese and Korean; Greek, Thai, Tamil and Telugu. Choose the language under Language and model; without a choice it reads Chinese and English first and suggests the right model.
Is the picture uploaded?
No. The model is downloaded once and runs in your browser, so the picture is read on your device.
Why is some text missing or wrong?
Only horizontal lines are read, and blurry, tilted or very small text is harder. Straighten and crop the photo, and always read the result before using it.
Can I read many pictures at once?
Yes. Add several images and Read text goes through them in order; the saved file has every page.
