Remove blemishes, spots and dust from a photo

Paint over a spot, a speck of sensor dust or a small mark and Image Editor blends it away with the pixels around it. For portraits, product shots and scans, with the same healing tools photo editors know.

How to do it

  1. Open the photo with File > Open…, or drop it on the page.
  2. Pick the Spot Healing Brush (J) and set a brush a little larger than the spot.
  3. Click or paint over each blemish. The brush takes texture from the clean ring around it.
  4. For larger areas, use the Healing Brush or the Clone Stamp (S): Alt-click (Option-click on a Mac) a clean area first, then paint.
  5. Export with File > Export As… as JPEG, PNG or WebP.

Red eyes have their own Red Eye Tool and a Red-Eye Removal filter. Every stroke can be undone, and the History panel lets you step back further.

Questions

What is the difference between the Spot Healing Brush and the Healing Brush?

The Spot Healing Brush picks its source by itself from around the spot. The Healing Brush uses a source you set with Alt-click, which suits bigger or patterned areas.

Can it remove whole objects or people?

By hand, with the Clone Stamp and Healing Brush, all on your device. With your own OpenAI, Gemini or OpenRouter key, you can also select the object and use Layer > Edit with AI… to ask for it to be removed: only the selected area changes, and the picture goes to that provider.

Is the original photo changed?

No. You work on a copy in the browser and download the result; the file on your computer stays as it was.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is opened and edited in your browser and is never sent to a server. Only Edit with AI… sends a copy, to the AI provider whose key you use, after you press Edit.
