Compress a PDF
Shrink a PDF to fit an email or an upload form. Choose a lossless re-save that keeps everything, or a strong mode for scans and photo-heavy files.
How to do it
- Drop the PDF on the page.
- Open the Compress tool and choose Lossless or Strong (lossy).
- For Strong, set the resolution and the JPEG quality: lower values give a smaller file.
- Choose Compress & download. The panel shows the size before and after.
Your files stay on this device: PDF Editor runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.
Questions
How much smaller will my PDF get?
It depends on the file. Lossless removes unused objects and packs the rest, which helps some files a lot and others hardly at all. Strong mode shrinks scans and photos the most.
Does Strong compression keep the text?
No. Strong mode turns each page into a JPEG picture, so text can no longer be selected or searched, and forms and links are lost. Use Lossless to keep them.
Is my PDF uploaded to compress it?
No. The compression runs in your browser and the smaller file is saved straight to your device.
What if there is no saving?
The panel tells you when the original was already compact. Try Strong mode with a lower resolution if the size still matters.
