Import a bank statement and match it to your books
The Bank tab of Ledger reads the statement formats banks offer, besides CSV, and matches each line to the entry in your books that moved the bank account by the same amount.
How to do it
- Download the statement from your bank as OFX or QFX, QIF, camt.053 (XML), MT940 or CSV.
- In the Bank tab choose the account (Bank or Cash), then Import a statement… and pick the file.
- Lines that match an entry by amount within 5 days are matched at once. Pending lines are left out until the bank books them.
- For the rest, record a payment for an open invoice, pay a bill, record an expense, or set the line aside.
Your files stay on this device: Ledger runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.
Questions
Which formats can I import?
CSV with a date and an amount column, OFX and QFX (1.x and 2.x), QIF, ISO 20022 camt.053 (and camt.052 and camt.054) and SWIFT MT940.
What if the statement is in another currency?
Matching works in the base currency of your books, so a statement in another currency is refused with a message, and nothing is imported.
Can I import the same statement twice?
Yes, without harm: each line is kept once, so a second import adds only the lines that are new.
