Make a profit and loss statement
The Statements tab of Ledger draws a profit and loss statement (income statement) from your double-entry books: revenue and expenses by account, and the profit or loss for the period.
How to do it
- Record your sales as issued invoices in Invoices and your costs in Expenses; both post to the ledger.
- Add anything else as a manual entry in the Journal tab of Ledger.
- Open the Statements tab and pick the Period: This month, This quarter, This year, Last year, or Dates…
- Read revenue and expenses by account, and the Profit or Loss at the bottom.
- Choose Print… for a clean sheet, or Download CSV for your accountant.
Your files stay on this device: Ledger runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.
Questions
Where do the numbers come from?
From the journal: every account of type revenue and expense, between the dates you pick, in your base currency.
Is it the same as an income statement?
Yes. Profit and loss statement, P&L and income statement are names for the same report of revenue less expenses over a period.
Does it include unpaid invoices?
Yes. An invoice counts as revenue when it is issued, not when it is paid, as accrual books do. Cash flow by month in Reports shows the money that moved.
